   6

core grammar rules

## 1. What learners need to know first

Haitian Creole grammar is not English grammar with different words. The verb does not change for person, and short markers such as ap, te, pral, and pa carry much of the meaning.

**Pronunciation guide:** Read grammar examples aloud as full rhythm groups; do not translate word by word before listening.

## 2. Recommended grammar path

**Study in order:** pronouns first, then the markers **ap**, **te**, **pral**, **pa**, and basic question patterns.

## 3. Core patterns

**People**mwen, ou, li, nou, yo **Time and aspect**ap, te, pral **Negation**pa before the verb phrase **Questions**intonation, èske, question words
